The Challenge
Hillcross college faced three big problems: • Operational Fragmentation: Admins had to manually sync student records, HR data, and tuition receipts across disconnected databases. • Communication Friction: Teachers and students used conflicting channels for assignments and announcements, leading to missed deadlines. • Leaky Onboarding: Prospective students applied on one platform but had to re-register on a separate system upon acceptance, causing significant drop-off.
The Solution
Rather than building a bloated single-dashboard system, I architected three distinct web apps sharing a unified Figma design system. By isolating permission levels and daily tasks by role, each user gets an interface optimized for speed and clarity.
Key Design Highlights
Admin Portal (High-Density Operations)
Structured Sidebar Navigation: Grouped heavy administrative tools (Admissions, Finance, HR and so on) into clean, high-level buckets to eliminate nested menu fatigue.
Permission-Based UI: Designed dynamic dashboard states that adjust views based on administrator authorization levels.
Academic & Student Portals (Connected Workflows)
Symmetrical Coursework UI: I mirrored the teacher assignment creation flow with the student submission view, maintaining consistent mental models across both roles.
Unified Lifecycle Onboarding: I integrated applicant submission, fee payment, and class enrollment into a single continuous account flow.
The Result
By replacing scattered tools with a structured multi-portal system, I turned a messy operational process into a modern digital campus. I designed three role-specific web applications sharing a unified architecture, seamless data flow, and an accessible Figma UI kit based on HillCross’s brand colors. This approach eliminated applicant drop-off by directly connecting online forms to active enrollment within a single account flow, while balancing high-density data tables for administrators with clear, focused layouts for teachers and students.
