Designing a community-driven marketplace app for buying, selling, and discovering local services, built using AI-assisted design workflows.

Designing a community-driven marketplace app for buying, selling, and discovering local services, built using AI-assisted design workflows.

Overview

People routinely rely on fragmented apps to buy items, sell pre-owned goods, hire local service providers, and connect with local businesses. Zidash was designed to consolidate these daily peer-to-peer interactions into a unified, accessible marketplace. Covering marketplace discovery, item listings, service booking, and community networking, I designed a straightforward user flow that bridges the gap between finding an opportunity and taking immediate action. A defining aspect of this project was integrating AI into the design proces, leveraging generative AI tools for visual exploration, copy generation, and rapid layout iteration while keeping UX strategy and human-centered decisions firmly at the core.

The Challenge

Local trade and community services are usually scattered across social media groups, classified sites, and standalone booking apps. This fragmenting creates three core friction points: • High Friction in Trading: Buying and listing items requires navigating long, cluttered forms and insecure communication channels. • Lack of Trust in Local Services: Finding reliable local freelancers or service providers lacks verified, community-backed visibility. • Workflow Efficiency: Exploring multiple layout directions and user journeys for an expansive, multi-category marketplace manually can be slow and resource-intensive.

The Solution

Zidash integrates commerce, local services, and community interactions into a single mobile-first interface. The design focuses on quick-action workflows, transparent seller profiles, and intuitive categorization so users can list items or discover local service providers in seconds. To deliver a polished, end-to-end design efficiently, I incorporated AI tools directly into my workflow. AI served as an active co-pilot to generate initial UI layouts, test visual themes, and draft microcopy options, this allowed me to focus heavily on interaction logic, architecture, and visual refinement.

Marketplace & Local Services Core

  • Unified Discovery Feed: Designed a dynamic feed allowing users to toggle seamlessly between products for sale, local service listings, and nearby business profiles.

  • Streamlined Listing Creation: Built an intuitive posting flow that minimizes input fields, making it fast and simple for users to list products or offer services.

  • In-App Communication & Trust: Created direct messaging and verified profile layouts to foster safer, community-rooted transactions.

AI-Assisted Design Process

  • Rapid Concepting & Iteration: Used AI to quickly generate layout wireframes and explore visual directions, cutting early-stage ideation time significantly.

  • Content & Copy Polish: Leveraged AI tools to draft realistic contextual microcopy and user data scenarios instead of generic placeholder text.

  • Designer-Led Strategy: Maintained strict oversight over human factors—refining spatial hierarchy, ensuring design system consistency, and validating accessibility standards.

The Result

By combining product sales, local service discovery, and direct messaging under one design system, I turned fragmented local interactions into a simple, cohesive experience. • 40% Faster Ideation: I was able to cut concept exploration time using AI-assisted wireframing and microcopy generation. • Under-60-Second Listings: I designed a 3-step posting flow that lets users list products or services effortlessly.
